You Can Overcome Dental Anxiety
Dental anxiety can be a threat to your healthy smile as well as the healthy smiles of your family. We want you and your loved ones to keep your teeth as long as possible.
By helping you manage and even overcome your dental fears, you can make it easier for future generations as well. At Black Diamond Dentistry, we have assisted many patients seeking relief from their dental anxiety. We are confident we can do the same for you.
Understand What You Can Do
Experts estimate the up to 15 percent of the population avoids dental care due to their anxiety about treatment. This anxiety can develop for many reasons, but some of the most concerns we have heard include:
- A bad experience at a dental office
- Fear that dental care will be painful
- Concern about gagging during dental treatment
- Fear that the dentist will be judgmental
These are all reasonable concerns, and we want you to know that we can address all of them.
If you had a bad experience, we welcome you to talk about your concerns with us. If a particular piece of equipment caused the problem, we may be able to approach your problem in a different way.
If you worry that you may gag or be in pain during a procedure, we offer two kinds of sedation dentistry. Laughing gas (inhaled sedation) and medication (oral sedation) both are effective ways to ease your mind, to block pain, and to prevent gagging sensations.
Last but not least, you can feel confident that we are not going to judge you regardless of the condition of your mouth. We understand that many people may feel embarrassed about the condition of their mouths. We are here to help you improve your oral health and to offer assistance in maintaining your healthy smile for many years to come.
Set A Good Example
Even if you have dental anxiety, you probably recognize that regular dental care is good for your children. The trouble is, you may unintentionally pass on your fears of the dentists based on how you talk about oral care or about visiting the dentist office.
As your kids get older, they too will be more aware of whether you get dental cleanings and exams.
It’s also why you may want to know that we take a holistic approach to dentistry. For our dental professionals, this means understands that your oral health affects and is affected by your overall health. That includes your mental and emotional health. If you are feeling anxious, you are less likely to return for the routine care we provide. By helping our patients relax, we are making it easier for you and your loved ones to keep smiling.
